Why Grass-Fed, Grass-Finished Tallow for Skin

Tallow's fatty acid profile is remarkably similar to human sebum — the skin's own natural oil — which is why it absorbs the way it does. But not all tallow is equal. The nutrient density of grass-finished tallow differs significantly from grain-finished: higher concentrations of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and a better Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio. This isn't an ethical preference — it's a functional difference in what the product actually delivers to your skin.

Beretta's tallow is rendered from kidney fat specifically. Suet has a finer texture and higher nutrient concentration than other beef fat sources — most tallow skincare brands can't specify their fat source because they don't control it. We can, because the animal is ours from pasture to product.

What It Does

• Deeply moisturising: Tallow is an occlusive moisturiser — it locks hydration in and prevents dryness, flaking, and irritation. Particularly effective for eczema, psoriasis, and chronically dry or sensitive skin.
• Vitamin-rich: Vitamins A (skin cell turnover, collagen production), D (anti-inflammatory, skin repair), E (antioxidant, oxidative stress protection), and K (elasticity, dark circle reduction) — naturally present in grass-finished tallow, not added synthetically.
• Anti-inflammatory: CLA and Omega-7 fatty acids soothe inflamed or irritated skin without the synthetic emollients that conventional moisturisers rely on.
• Barrier-strengthening: Tallow reinforces the skin's lipid barrier, making it more resilient to environmental damage. Despite being an animal fat, grass-fed tallow has a low comedogenic rating (1–2) — unlikely to clog pores for most people.
• Preservative-free: Tallow is stable at room temperature without preservatives — the long shelf life is inherent to the fat, not added chemistry.

The Frankincense & Lemon Scent

Organic frankincense essential oil has been used in skin care for centuries — it carries a warm, woody, slightly resinous scent and is associated with skin-calming and toning properties. The lemon essential oil adds a clean, bright citrus note that lifts the blend and prevents the frankincense from becoming heavy. Together they produce a scent profile that's warm and grounding without being floral or overpowering — the right balance for a daily face moisturiser.

How to Use

Apply a small amount — a little goes a long way — to clean, slightly damp skin. Warm between fingertips first to soften, then press and smooth into face and neck. The tallow absorbs quickly and won't leave a greasy residue when used in the right amount. Start with a pea-sized portion and adjust.

Best used morning and/or evening as your primary moisturiser, or as an intensive treatment over dry patches.
